I did the homestuck title test and, according to it, I would be the Witch of Doom. Now, besides “staying optimistic and helping others stay optimistic”, I wondered; just what sort of powers might a Witch of Doom have?
Well, I read the theory I reblogged about the powers and Witches growing or shrinking their aspect seems to make sense.
So, let’s take a look at Condesce, the Witch of Life. She can extend natural lifespans, but not make her target invincible. However, a Witch of Life, when you think about it, is actually a really useful offensive player, able to shrink lifespans down to destroy her enemies without having to get her hands dirty.
Doom is an abstract concept. You can’t shrink or grow it, not literally. A Witch of Doom presumably decreases or increases the CHANCE of doom. This may work with objects or abstract things, but I’m going to focus on its affect on people.
So, what would the Witch of Doom do? You might, at first glance, think it’d be a good offensive class too. However, when you think about it, while I’m not sure about gaming constructs, any mortal is doomed. They will almost definitely die somehow. A Witch of Doom would have no control over WHEN the enemy is doomed, as that would be overpowered (possibly reserved for a god tier Witch of Doom) just that it is doomed. An enemy could die peacefully in their sleep after fifty years and slaughtering all of her friends if she doomed them. Since all mortals are doomed, I doubt a Witch of Doom could increase their chances, as they’re already at 100% chance, so to speak.
I think, however, that where a Witch of Doom lacks offensive skills, she would make up for it in defensive skills. Where Condesce could only extend lifespans, the Witch of Doom could make their target invincible, switching the chance of Doom from 100% to 0%. The target could still feel pain, be crippled or incapacitated, but would only get injuries they would survive.
I think, before god tier, a Witch of Doom could only target one person and would have to be careful about not letting enemies know who her target is, otherwise they might attack another player before she has time to react.
The Witch of Doom doesn’t prolong life, she staves off death. So, the target would most likely age, suffering only the affects that wouldn’t kill them. So, while protecting a person may be useful short-term, they might become a shell of their former selves if kept alive for, says, thousands of years. Perhaps if a Witch of Life and a Witch of Doom teamed up, they could keep a target invincible and forever young. Despite this, as witches may not be able to affect themselves and, at least until god tier, could only have one constant target, once the witches died, the target would become killable and begin to age again.
If the Witch of Doom stopped keeping her target from dying, what would happen depends on the age of the target. If they were somewhere in their natural lifespan, they would live until they died of old age or something killed them. A person that lived beyond their lifespan (Without the help of a Witch of Life) would probably die instantly.
The Witch of Doom is useless offensively, but can keep another person from dying. They will still suffer things that won’t kill them and suffer non-fatal affects of aging, but they will be unkillable.
A god tier Witch of Doom could possibly team up with a god tier Witch of Life to make a target (or several) invincible and young indefinitely.
